SHELDONKelvany Rodriguez wants to teach others how to dress for a living, he just needs to grow up first.

I like to do fashion; it's my favorite thing, said 7-year-old girl Sheldon.

According to her mother, Jahayra Rivas, Kelvany began to worry more about her clothes and her appearance after she started attending East Elementary in Sheldon last year.

Kelvany is a freshman and her teacher Brittany Peters noticed her wardrobe and attention to detail.

She told me that all her outfits are pink, blue, purple, green dresses. Poofy, slim, shiny, said Peters. It looks like there is a wide variety.

She is very excited by all the accessories: heels, jewelry and makeup.

A Miami native, Rivas said her hometown influences the Kelvany style and the clothes she buys for him.

While they sometimes go to Sioux City or Sioux Falls, SD, for shopping, Rivas also likes to make trips to Chicago, Houston and other big cities to find unique outfits and accessories.

In May, we're going to Colorado, said Rivas.

Rivas loves that Kelvany is so fashionable and encourages it. Kelvany is his youngest child and his only daughter.

The mother of three has not had the same experiences with her older children Jose Rivas, 21, and Rafael Beato, 17, so she appreciates this opportunity.

This is also why she entered Kelvany in an online contest sponsored by Des Moines' Iowa Kids Fashion Week.

Parents submit photos of their children to the organization, who then shares them on the Iowa Kids Fashion Week Facebook page. The kid with the greatest number of reactions to his post is named in front of Iowa Children's Fashion Week.

Candace B. Sayonkon, who launched Iowa Children's Fashion Week two years ago, said that other children will also be offered ambassador opportunities.

The competition started on Monday March 2 and ends on Thursday April 2 and is open to models from 5 to 16 years old.

Sayonkon also makes it clear that the contest includes more than just an online vote and the July 20 fashion show at Des Moines.

We also have etiquette classes, then we do arts and crafts, we create portfolio, we teach our kids how to pose for modeling and we teach them how to prepare for interviews and stuff like that, she said.

Sayonkon has some experience in the field. Originally from Liberia, a West African nation, she has been a model since she was 16 and is approaching her 20th year in the industry.

Kelvany wants to win the contest and she takes her look seriously, as Peters noted.

The aspiring fashionista bases what she will wear for the day around the color of her blue, pink and purple hair elastics are her favorite shades and loves earrings, necklaces and rings.

You look good, you're pretty and you're beautiful are the favorite compliments of the people of Kelvany.

Kelvany can be shy when she meets someone again, but point a camera at her and the personality her teacher sees in the classroom.

Kelvany is brave, energetic, a leader, independent and always wearing lipstick, said Peters.
