Content Creator Keto Pataraia (@keto.pataraia) turns to Harajuku streetwear, his Brooklyn home and second-hand fashion to maintain his sense of style. Her closet is filled with bright pieces that show the world exactly who she is.
Brooklyn influences my style a lot, says Keto. I grew up with a lot of characters that weren’t afraid to be themselves, and I feel like that gave me the confidence to be who I am.
Three words sum up the Ketos style: rave, colorful and funky. She says growing up in the Youtube era influenced her love for Harajuku streetwear videos. Even though it’s not my style now, I’m still obsessed with it, she says.
Some of Ketos’ favorite closet pieces include a Depop shirt dress with digital TV-inspired prints, a vintage 2003 D&G shirt, and a Sailor Moon vest purchased from a Japanese resale site. Next, Keto pulls out a vintage ’90s Lip Service ensemble in green and black with tube embellishments on the sides and a Mugler dress she bought from The RealReal.
Other highlights include second-hand tights adorned with Hello Kitty ribbons found on Etsy, a pair of Z-Coil orthopedic sneakers that Keto loves for their unique heels, and a ton of second-hand accessories and jewelry. And Ketos Swear London boots are a prized possession.
Channel the funky style of Ketos with her top five fashion tips:
1. Get messy
I really think more of us should be doing a mess while dressing up, says Keto. The more things you pull out, the more you can match, the more you can elevate your outfit.
2. Try many options
Trying on as many pieces as possible helps Keto see what she has in her closet and figure out what she can wear each day.
3. Accessorize to complete the look
Accessorizing is one of the most important steps for Keto. I feel like without my accessories without my rings, without my necklace I just feel incomplete, I feel naked, she said.
4. Don’t forget the bag
To be honest, I kind of forgot about the bags for a little while, but once I started getting some more, I realized how much I really needed them in my outfits, admits Keto.
5. The economy of a single wardrobe
Most of the pieces in the Ketos Closet come from a variety of places, from thrift stores and resale stores to Etsy, eBay, The RealReal and beyond. You’ll never know what you can find until you start looking.
