Grace Kelly dress by Brenda Janowitz is a recently published fiction book that revolves around the famous wedding dress of Princess Grace of Monaco… or a replica of it passed down from generation to generation. There are three different scenarios: the 1950s, 1980s and today where he follows the grandmother, mother and bride of the bride, respectively, in their love life and their way to the altar .

Of course, as expected, there are many references to Grace Kelly and in the 1980s scenario there is Diana, references to the Princess of Wales (as in the bride, the wedding dress has been changed to include the puffed sleeves like Diana had on her wedding dress).

I enjoyed the book. It was different from what I normally read and review for this site, as it was not a biography or historical analysis. This time it was a fiction based on a beloved royal and the influence of her wedding dress for decades – which any royal observer could endorse, because the dress of The Duchess of Cambridge's bride in 2011 was also inspired by it.

The author does a great job of showing how a heritage dress can reunite a family, with their fair share of heartache and tragedy, while each member and generation brings its own touch. For example, while the 1950s were very similar to Grace's dress, the 1980s dress added a Diana touch.

During the history of the 1980s, the former sorority girl in me (I was a Sigma Kappa) was a little annoyed by the representation of sorority girls where new promises called for the older girls "Sister Name" and did whatever the initiated members asked. It was far from my own sorority experience where, as new girls, we were called "Baby Doves" and older girls adored new members. However, it was a minor thing in what was a great story.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable read. Pour yourself a nice glass of wine, and while many of us are under control with this coronavirus, pass the time with this novel. You will not regret it!
