EveryBody Fashion Show returns to the runway in Youngstown, Ohio in honor of Danielle Peters
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – An event promoting body positivity is returning to the Valley for the 11th year.
The EveryBODY Fashion Show is an event held through Youngstown State University's fashion program. It started in 2013 in memory of Danielle Peters, a fashion merchandising student who died from an eating disorder.
The show features models of all shapes and sizes on the catwalk.
“Our program definitely focuses on body positivity,” said Jennifer Frank, professor of fashion merchandising at YSU. “We hope that when everyone leaves the show, they know that they are beautiful for what's in their heart and what's in their mind and not for what their body looks like. We want everyone to know that fashion is for everyone, regardless of your size and shape.
Eating disorder counselors will be on hand on the day of the show to provide information and support to anyone who may need it. There will also be local vendors offering a range of shopping opportunities.
“Well, we have our own social media, we support the fashion show, but I also think social media plays a big role in your ability to feel confident or compare yourself to others,” Madison Howard said . , senior fashion merchandising student. “And I think this whole show is for you to forget all that and be yourself and appreciate what’s inside.”
Everyone is invited to attend the fashion show. The models will show on April 24 at 6 p.m., with doors opening an hour earlier. This takes place at the Beeghly Center.
