West Branch High School Baseball Wins First State Title in Exciting Fashion

AKRON, Ohio (WKBN) – West Branch defeated Hamilton Badin 3-2 in a thrilling OHSAA Division II baseball state championship game Sunday morning at Canal Park in Akron.

The Warriors win the first baseball state title in program history.

West Branch's Boston Mulinix scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning on a wild pitch from Badin.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh inning, the Warriors scored two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Mulinix delivered an RBI single to make it 2-1. Aaron Tucker tied the game with an RBI groundout.

Entering the state championship game, Badin had not allowed a single run in the postseason.

Badin opened the scoring in the fourth inning on Xander Arnold's sacrifice fly, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

The Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a West Branch error to make it 2-0.

Anthony Perry got the win on the mound for West Branch, pitching a complete game. He allowed two earned runs on five hits with five walks.

West Branch finishes its championship season with a 28-6 record. The 28 victories are a school record.

Badin finishes the season with a 27-7 record
