NEW LONDON The offensive was in full swing Monday evening in New London.

The Peking Tigers and Panthers eclipsed 10 points in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and South showdowns.

New London and Beijing were neck and neck throughout, but it was the Tigers who had the last laugh with a two-run winner in the bottom of the seventh, finishing the game 14-12.

After two innings, it looked like New London might run away.

The Tigers managed seven points in the first two frames, while holding the Panthers to two.

But Beijing found its rhythm in the box in the first half of the third, winning what would be a record seven points to build a 9-7 lead through two and a half sets.

It didn't last.

New London, like Beijing, had its best offensive outing of the evening in the third. The Tigers nearly matched the Panthers' total, finishing with five points to regain the lead 12-9.

These would be the Tigers' final runs for the next three innings.

On the contrary, Beijing managed to bring the match back to a tie with two points in fifth position.

After a scoreless sixth inning by both teams, each team had a chance to win it in the seventh.

Beijing handled the pressure well and scored two runs in the first half of the seventh to take its first lead since the third inning.

While the Tigers needed two points to win, Sophie Malott kept her promises. The senior notched a two-RBI hit to give New London the win.

With this victory, New London improves to 2-9. Beijing is still looking for its second win of the season at 1-16.
