The North Platte Public Schools Board of Education will discuss a staffing change and teacher dress code at its nonvoting session Thursday after tabling a vote on the policy at its regular meeting June 10.
Thursday's meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the McKinley Education Center, a live stream can be found at nppsd.org/page/npps-boe-meetings.
The policy would change the dress code for teachers and professors from casual to comfortable, allowing teachers to wear untorn jeans, tennis shoes and other more comfortable clothing while presenting a professional image to students, parents and colleagues.
Board members had initially postponed voting on implementing the policy because of possible confusion over the word comfortable and how teachers might interpret it.
No vote will take place until July, but the board will decide whether the policy will be put to a formal vote or whether changes to the language need to be made before next month's meeting.
The board will also hear reports on the TeamMates mentoring program, special education and finances, in addition to an update on the district's personnel and expense reimbursement guidelines.
Several revised policies will be discussed, including policies on:
Public participation in board meetings.
Calls for tenders for construction, repair and related projects.
Tax management for purchases made with federal funds.
Fees for school district records.
Loan of textbooks to students in private schools.
Employee Leave Under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Compulsory attendance and excessive absenteeism.
Registration for options and transport option.
Pregnant or parenting students.
Reading instruction and intervention services.
