The Scotland men's under-21 team were beaten 3-0 by the England men's under-21 team at Uddingston Hockey Club in the final match of a three-match series. England have won the previous two matches as both teams prepare for the upcoming European competition.
England started to attack and forced Calum Douglas to stop the ball early in the match. The ball arrived from the right and a powerful shot was deflected by the goalkeeper.
Douglas was kept busy in the first quarter, making two more saves near the post as England peppered Scotland's goal.
At the start of the second quarter, England took the lead. A nice combination and spin on the right side created enough space for a powerful low strike into the bottom left corner for 1-0.
Then a lively attack opened up Scotland on the left and a shot at the far post made it 2-0.
The second goal sparked a response from Scotland. Tommy Austin forced his way through the English defence but his shot was saved by a superb dive under the crossbar.
A fast start to the second half from Scotland almost earned them a goal. A hard pass into the circle was deflected by Jack Adams but it sailed wide of the left post.
As Scotland attacked, England proved dangerous on the counter-attack, resulting in a third goal. A counter to the left ended with a thunderous effort from the left of the circle to the bottom right corner. 3-0.
England finished the game strongly. Douglas made an excellent save, low to his right with his leg, from an England corner early in the final quarter.
Then, just as England looked certain to score a fourth goal in the final minute, Douglas burst forward to make a superb save to deny the goal.
