Employees in the fashion and textile sectors on strike from Monday

Workers in the fashion, interior, carpet and textile sectors will strike from Monday, the FNV union announced. The union wants to use these actions to impose a better collective labor agreement. The ultimatum the union had set expired Friday afternoon after FNV members rejected the employers' final offer.

Union leader Paul van Boxtel said that employees in various companies were ready to stop working. The union is demanding a 6.2 percent wage increase for the sector and a structural supplement of 100 euros per month. The FNV is also advocating that wages should automatically increase each year in line with inflation. The union also wants employees who do physically demanding work in the carpet and textile industry to be given the opportunity to work less or stop working.

According to FNV, the Dutch textile industry employs around 12,000 people in 900 companies. The previous collective labor agreement expired in January. Since then, the FNV and the employers have been in talks, but according to the union, these negotiations are not going smoothly.
