A filming has Fashion Island Shopping Center In Newport Beach The fire left at least one person dead. The Newport Beach Fire Department confirmed that firefighters responded to the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and found one person dead in the parking lot of the Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Authorities immediately began tracking the alleged suspects after the incident, driving them into Los Angeles County. Police reported that two suspects jumped out of their vehicle near Los Alamitos. The car continued west on the 105 Freeway, reaching speeds of 110 mph. As it exited the freeway, two other suspects fled the scene and drove through a nearby South Gate neighborhood. Authorities later apprehended one suspect who was found hiding behind trash cans near a local residence.

Currently, no information is available regarding the identity of the suspects or the victim.

The Newport Police Department advised residents to avoid the mall area while they continue their investigation.

“Police operations are underway in the Fashion Island area. Officers are on scene and the situation is still evolving. NBPD is aware of a possible shooting in the area. Multiple officers are on scene to ensure public safety. As more information becomes available, we will provide additional updates.

“Please avoid the area,” police said in a statement.

“I was parking my car. And a woman came up to me and said she heard gunshots, and she told me to leave the area,” the woman told the outlet.

Another woman, who works a few stores away from where the shooting happened, said ABC7 that at first she wasn't sure what was happening.

“A lady came in with her daughter screaming, ‘There’s a shooter! There’s a shooter,’” she told the outlet. “We ended up locking ourselves in there with a lot of customers and we had to wait.”
