The stage was set on a recent beautiful Saturday afternoon in Wyoming for the annual Western District 4-H Fashion Show!

Participation in the 4-H Clothing and Textiles Project builds self-esteem, develops a sense of accomplishment, and allows youth to express their individuality through personal creativity.

Nineteen 4-H members from five of New York’s western counties—Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Orleans and Wyoming—showcased their sewing projects at the annual event. Youth were selected at the county level based on the quality of their work and experience. Items included dresses, aprons, pajama pants, vests, coats, and more! 4-H members had the chance to pose on stage while being judged on the fit, balance, posture and style of the item they had sewn.

This year the event was hosted by the Wyoming County 4-H program. The parade was held at the Church on the Green, a public event space. More than 50 families gathered for the day’s event. Lunch was provided and a presentation was given by local historian Kay Swyers on the local history of sewing and how patterns were used in the late 1800s. The group also had the opportunity to tour and visit Middlebury Academy.
