Tyler Jones Named Head Coach of Men's and Women's Golf Programs
HICKORY, North Carolina Lenoir-Rhyne University Athletic Director Kim Pate has announced the hiring of Tyler Jones as the new head coach of the men's and women's golf programs.
Jones brings with him seven years of experience as a top-level coach and player.
“I am thrilled to announce Tyler Jones as our next head men’s and women’s golf coach,” said Kim Pate, vice president of athletics. “Coach Jones is an up-and-coming talent in the college golf coaching ranks. Jones had an impressive collegiate playing career as a two-time national champion and two-time All-American. I am confident he knows what it takes to compete at a high level in Division II. He has done a tremendous job positioning the Pioneers as a nationally competitive program during his time at Spartanburg Methodist and will bring the same competitive drive and passion to positively impact our student-athletes on and off the course.”
Jones joins LR after spending three seasons as the head men's golf coach at Spartanburg Methodist College. During his time at SMC, he led the Pioneers to three consecutive NJCAA National Championship appearances. In just three seasons, his Spartanburg Methodist teams have won a total of six events, including three in the 2022 season alone. In addition to his men's coaching duties, he helped lead the women's program as interim head coach in 2022-23.

He has coached seven individual champions and, in 2023, helped Joy Outhous win the women's individual national championship. In the 2021-22 season, he coached Drew Greene to a ninth-place finish at the national championships. In addition to his success on the course, he has had 14 Academic All-Region honorees and two Academic All-Americans.
As a player, Jones was part of seven team victories while competing at NCAA DII Erskine College. He was a part of 11 top-five teams and helped set a school record for lowest team scoring average. He was a three-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic honoree and was a member of the 2018 and 2019 NCCAA Men's Golf National Championship team. Individually, he was a three-time NCCAA Southeast All-Region honoree and a two-time NCCAA All-American honoree.
He will inherit a men's golf team that qualified for the NCAA regionals for the first time in school history, and a women's team that features the reigning SAC Freshman of the Year, Charlotte Colley.
