AUSFF Summer Fashion Fundraiser Brings Aussies Together in New York
On a Tuesday in July, the elevator doors at Nine Orchard opened to reveal a fashion fairytale. Set in the hotel’s skyscraper greenhouse, trays of refreshing Wlffer Estate rosé and LALO tequila margaritas greeted guests. The Australian Fashion Foundations’ 16th annual Summer Party was underway. Hosted by Malcolm Carfrae, Laura Brown and Julie Anne Quay, in partnership with the American Australian Association & The Next Generation, the enchanting evening served as a celebration of the non-profit organization that provides scholarships and internships to the next generation of Australian talent.
“When you live in Australia and want to pursue a career in fashion, it’s very difficult to find the right internships, make the right connections and get the right kind of support because it’s so far away geographically,” Carfrae says.[Quay and I] We decided to create a network to support these young Australians.
And what a network! A sea of guests streamed in and out of the large French doors onto the balcony and gazebo. A mix of Australian models, socialites and fashion designers swirled around, including Beckett Fogg, Brian Atwood, Cynthia Rowley and Gigi Burris. Past AUSFF winners mingled.
A lot of Australians in New York, and especially in the fashion industry, spend a lot of time trying to get to New York because that's where everything is, Brown said between dances to DJ Amrit.
