Blue House Vets receptionist Nicki Fynney said she probably couldn’t handle a stone and a half in weight, but that’s what she’s lost so far since joining her local band Slimming World.
The 36-year-old mom-of-two, from Biddulph, started her weight loss journey in August 2019 when she says she felt ‘mortified’ looking at her vacation photos.
So far she has lost all 7 pounds and says her state of mind has ‘completely changed’. Before joining, she couldn’t fit in her size 14 jeans anymore, and now she comfortably wears a size 10 to 12.
She was also voted “ Woman of the Year ” in her group Biddulph – along with her colleagues who nominated her for the title.
“I still have a bit to do but I don’t mind,” Nicki said, “I’m happy with the way it’s going.
“It’s about fixing habits and making simple changes that change your whole lifestyle and mindset.
“I no longer cook with oil and I no longer have sugar in my tea.
“At work, a lot of our customers bring in treats, and I always ate them, but now I find it so much easier to say no. Someone bought Lindor chocolates the other day, which are my favorite, and I didn’t. haven’t at all. “
But why did Nicki take the plunge and join her local weight loss group? It was a photo and a pair of jeans that gave her the motivation she needed to change her diet.
“I came back from vacation last summer, looked at the pictures, and I was just mortified. On top of that, I realized I couldn’t fit into my jeans anymore, so I knew I had to do something.
“I still have these photos on my phone – I will always look at them and remember why I started if I ever have a hard time motivating myself.”
Foodie Nicki says she likes to save her syns – foods that are not classified as “ free ” by Slimming World – for an evening treat.
“Evenings are when I would usually go for chocolate,” Nicki explained. “So I’ll have something that matches my timings and I feel like I had a treat, had my dose of chocolate and stayed on plan.
“I have always cooked using fresh produce, but since I created Slimming World, I have changed the way I cook.
“I don’t use the oil anymore, and I have a lot of Slimming World cookbooks. My husband and two sons are really good and they are happy to eat whatever I make.
“My kids even asked for cheeseburger pasta the other day which is a recipe from Slimming World and I was happy to do so. I know they will lower them and I can stay on the plane.
“I didn’t exercise too much on my trip, but when I’m at work I always volunteer to organize dog food deliveries. These are big 12kg bags, usually around 10, and I’ll be the one to carry them all and sort them. It’s my daily exercise! “
Now that we’re in a second lockdown, Nicki Slimming World’s weekly sessions are live again. But she is grateful for the opportunity to stay on track.
She said: “I enjoyed the virtual meetings during the first lockdown because it really kept me on the right track. I know if it weren’t for those, I would have put the weight back on.
“With this second lockdown we’re going to be doing the sessions again and I feel so much more motivated. Before, nobody knew how long we would be out of the group, but now we know it will only be four weeks, so I think we will let’s all feel more motivated.
“My biggest tip for a new member would be to write everything you eat in a notepad. It makes you feel more in control, and if you have a bad week and don’t waste it, you can always watch. back to see where you might have gone wrong.
“A lot of new people can feel a bit like a bunny in the headlines when they first meet. There is so much information given to you, but you will soon be taking it and understanding it.
“I have felt so much better since the start of my trip and I have so much more energy – I’m not so tired anymore.
“If I think about how much a stone and a half weighs, I’m not sure I can carry it! I feel so much more comfortable now.”
