ALTAMONT Making a good first impression can be a valuable asset when it comes to interviewing for a new job or creating a new positive image.
Kate Beals, originally from Brazil who moved to Altamont this year, has years of knowledge and formal training in the fashion industry. She recently launched Kate Beals Fashion, offering her services as a personal fashion consultant and stylist to area residents.
Beals moved to Altamont in March to marry real estate agent Grant Beals Century 21 Reality Concepts of Effingham.
Coming to Altamont gives me another chance to be happy, said Kate Beals. I leave my whole life in another country and coming here is a blessing.
Kate Beals has three children, Diovani, 21, and Leonardo, 22, living in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Kamilla, 30, who plays volleyball in Portugal.
Bealsspent 4 1/2 years at Sigbol Fashion Institute, majoring in Fashion Design, and studied Fashion Journalism at Escola Sao Paulo.
When Beals began her professional career in the fashion industry 25 years ago, she was a freelance journalist in Brazil and wrote several articles for fashion magazines and newspapers. She also worked in department stores selling specific high quality clothing brands before starting her own personal consulting business.
Beals grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her father was a driver and her mother worked as a seamstress.
She had her own studio, where she made her dresses, Beals said. I grew up surrounded by silk and embroidery.
Beals said she loved to see how happy people would be when her mother designed clothes for them.
It made me realize that people have different bodies and that not everyone can look good in the same clothes, Beals said. I help people figure out what clothes are right for them.
Beals has a five-step system to assess which clothes would fit a person. She said the most important thing was the first conversation she had with a client.
I interview a person to understand the places they go and the things they love to do, Beals said. In this interview with the client, I observe her physical type, what her job is, the places she frequents. After that, thanks to colorimetry, we find the appropriate colors for her skin tone. “
After determining the colorimetry, she goes to her client’s home to organize her closet, removing clothes that do not match that person.
She then goes to the store with a customer and finds the clothes that best match that person. Beals helps women and men find the right sartorial solution.
I would be a personal shopper then, Beals said. Choosing the right fashion is important. I find exactly what is perfect for this person.
Beals said that wearing the right clothes can also stimulate a person mentally.
As an example, she said that women stay home after having children and look at themselves in the mirror thinking they will never look great again. There is no reason for someone to stay home and feel depressed. They might just be wearing the wrong combination of clothes, she says.
Sometimes people are just ashamed of how they look and think their image isn’t good, Beals said. Some people think that fashion is not important Yes, it is very important.
I love to make people feel more confident, Beals said. It’s possible. I really like to see people happy.
Beals also has experience as a consultant for companies. During a consultation, she gave a presentation to a group of bank employees on how to present oneself to the public.
Sometimes a business owner is concerned about their image, Beals said. This is how I can help.
I help employees understand what kind of makeup is right for the job and what clothes are okay, Beals said. I can help you with a corporate dress code.
She said some employees come in with too much makeup and sometimes wear the wrong colors. Beals said the companies she worked for in Brazil made her teach her the proper dress code because the companies didn’t know how to discuss dress code issues with their employees. She can give presentations to sales staff to explain the importance of wearing appropriate clothing that makes them more confident at work and helps them sell more products.
Beals said another service she offers is helping someone looking for their first job choose the right wardrobe options. She said schools would hire her to give a presentation to students on how making a good impression by wearing the right clothes can help land a job.
The first impression is the most important, said Beals. It’s those first 15 seconds that leave a good or bad impression. If you are wearing the wrong clothes, there is no second chance.
She said that good clothes and good grooming are essential to making a good first impression.
It makes a big difference, Beals said.
