KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) – Prominent clerics have demanded the lifting of the ban on congregational prayers in Pakistani mosques, which have recorded 5,837 cases of Corona virus and 96 associated deaths.

Calls on Tuesday in a joint statement of religious leaders and leaders of religious parties in the world’s second largest Islamic country said that prayer is important to Muslims and should be permitted as long as safety measures are adhered to.

Their demands come despite the fact that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he will meet with clerics to discuss restrictions on the group’s prayer imposed last month and a limit imposed on the five people gathered together.
