Pakistan welcomes UN appeal for Afghan aid (PM Imran Khan)

Pakistan is committed to providing all possible support to avert the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said while chairing the third meeting of the Supreme Committee on Afghanistan on Friday.

“We welcome the call for United Nations (UN) assistance for Afghanistan,” read a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office.

During the meeting, the committee was briefed on the progress made on the “in-kind humanitarian aid relief worth Rs 5 billion”, comprising 50,000 tons of wheat among other foodstuffs, emergency and medical supplies, winter shelters and other goods.

The Apex Committee has been informed that Afghanistan is on the brink of famine and crisis as the weather becomes increasingly harsh and it is difficult for people to get enough food and shelter.

The Supreme Committee expressed concern about the deteriorating situation in the neighboring country and pledged not to abandon the Afghans in case of need.

He also reiterated his appeal to the international community and relief agencies to provide assistance to avert economic collapse and save precious lives in Afghanistan at this critical time.

The statement further indicates that the Prime Minister has ordered the authorities concerned to strengthen bilateral cooperation with friendly countries to avoid the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan by exporting qualified and trained manpower specialized in medical, IT, financial fields. and accountant.

The prime minister issued guidelines to expand cooperation in the fields of railways, minerals, pharmaceuticals and media to help Afghanistan’s rehabilitation and development.

The meeting brought together Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, Prime Minister’s Advisor for Trade Razzak Dawood, Advisor to National Security Moeed Yusuf, Army Chief of Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and other senior civilian and military officials.
