Turkish rapper arrested after posting video mocking Erdogans son – Panorama
Turkish rapper Bulut Alpman, known as Rota, was arrested by police the day after a video of a song mocking Bilal Erdoan, the son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was released. Ahval reports.
Images posted on social networks would have shown the police arriving at the rapper’s house Sunday morning, knocking on the door and threatening to break it.
In an online clip, the video for the song “Ala” (Cry) featured someone wearing a mask with the face of Erdo’s son Bilal posing in front of the Istanbul tax office.
The lyrics included a phrase that said, “I will explain to all the children as I explain to Bilal.”
The lyrics are likely a reference to a 2013 corruption scandal in which a wiretap was leaked, which allegedly taped Erdoan repeatedly asking Bilal to get rid of millions of dollars of money hidden in property, while Bilal had trouble understanding his father’s instructions. Erdogan rejected the claim as fabricated.
The term “as I explain to Bilal” might suggest a very simple way of explaining something that even Bilal could understand.
Music journalist Bar Akpolat shared the new Rota video on Twitter with the message:
“It cannot be a crime to say” as I explain to Bilal “. Release Rota. Writing lyrics is not a crime. #FreeRota”
Alpman was also reportedly arrested in March 2019 for his song “Puppet”.
