Former Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan is expected to launch a new political party today.
Babacan spoke of the need for a fresh start for Turkey and called for reforms to strengthen the rule of law and democracy. Opposition politicians, human rights groups and the EU have long accused outgoing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of tolerating human rights abuses, Imprison critics of his presidency and falsify the elections.
The combination of the economic weakening of turkeys in the aftermath of the 2018 monetary crisis and the influx of migrants from Syria and abroad (which currently stands at more 3.5 million) caused the decline of Erdogan.
