Pakistani govt to investigate Imran Khan’s foreign conspiracy charges during ousting: The Tribune India

The Pakistani government said on Thursday that ousted Prime Minister Imran Khans, claiming he was removed from office following a foreign plot, would be questioned by an official commission of inquiry that would report directly to the Federal Cabinet, according to a media report.

At a press briefing here, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the investigative committee would be headed by an impartial person and no one would be able to lift a finger on his credibility, reported Samaa News.

The minister said that the investigation report will be made public and that the terms of reference of the commissions will be defined at the next meeting of the federal cabinets.

The head of Pakistan Muslim League-N said Imran Khan came up with the foreign conspiracy angle to hide gigantic corruption during his tenure, according to the report.

Khan, who was ousted from office in early April by a vote in parliament, accused the United States of plotting to unseat his government, citing a communication from the country’s ambassador in Washington. The US government has categorically denied these allegations on several occasions.

Aurangzeb said 847 million rupees ($4.56 million) was found in 44 bank accounts created between 2018 and 222 and that more such fraudulent accounts are expected to be uncovered.

Most of the accounts were created in Punjab in the name of Farah Gogi, she said.

Farah Khan, also known as Farah Gogi and Farhat Shehzadi, was considered extremely powerful during Khan’s tenure as prime minister, as she was known as the only person with direct access to Bushra Bibi – spiritual guide of Khan and third wife married in 2018.

Early last month, Farah left for Dubai following reports that she could be arrested if a new government is installed in Pakistan. Her husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar had already left for the United States.

The opposition alleged that Farah received huge sums of money to transfer and assign officers according to their choices, calling her the mother of all scandals.

Maryam Nawaz, Vice President of the Pakistani Muslim League-N (PML-N) and daughter of ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs, claimed that Farah had committed the corruption deals at the behest of Imran Khan and his wife.

During the press conference, Aurangzeb further said that the Al-Qadir University being built near Islamabad also has financial irregularities.

The information minister called the opposition party’s claims a foreign plot show and said Imran Khan could not hide his incompetence behind such speculation.

All these allegations are part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insafs (PTI) Gogi Bachao (save Gogi) movement, Samaa News quoted the minister as saying.

After Khan’s unceremonious exit, PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif, 70, took office as prime minister on April 11. The term of the current House ends in August 2023.
