Achieving 100% coverage of government programs ends discrimination as well as the policy of appeasement as it leaves no room for anyone to indulge in such things, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.
Due to lack of information, government programs remain on paper or ineligible people take advantage of their benefits, he said, adding that although the process to reach each beneficiary was difficult, it was the ” only way” to serve the people. .
He was speaking via video link at ‘Utkarsh Samaroh’, an event organized in Bharuch town, Gujarat, by the district administration to mark the 100% saturation of four key state government programs meant to provide financial aid for widows, the elderly and destitute citizens.
“100% saturation of government schemes ends the discrimination and the need for a referral to get the benefits because people are confident they will eventually get them. It also ends the policy of appeasement because 100% coverage leaves no room for him,” he said.
“Although it is difficult to reach every beneficiary to ensure 100% coverage, it is the only way to serve the population,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi said his government has been working to cover every eligible recipient of welfare schemes since he became prime minister eight years ago. “One hundred percent saturation is not just a number. It indicates that the government is sensitive and cares about the people. On the completion of eight years of our government, the country made a vow to reach out to 100 percent beneficiaries,” he said.
Modi said ensuring 100% coverage of social protection schemes was his dream, and added that he would not rest until it was achieved. He said that when the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the government in the Center in 2014, almost half of the country’s population did not have access to toilets, electricity, accounts banking and vaccination.
Modi said that over the past eight years, his government had managed to achieve 100% saturation in many projects. “The last eight years of my service to the nation from Delhi (as Prime Minister) have been devoted to good governance and the welfare of the poor,” he said.
“Once again, we must all act together to reach out to the needy and give them what they deserve. It is a difficult task and many politicians avoid doing it. But I am here to serve the people, not play politics,” added the Prime Minister.
The ultimate goal of saturated the system is to ensure the dignity of the poor, he said. According to the Prime Minister, the social security schemes set up in the country before 2014 had limited coverage and impact. “After 2014, the country extended the coverage of these schemes. Today, almost 50 million people are eligible for free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh; millions have received life insurance, elderly people have received a pension. We also provide toilets, electricity, bank accounts and tap water connections,” the prime minister said.
“Previously, it was very difficult for a poor person to get such benefits. But our government has changed this scenario and also made improvements in the schemes. We have set new targets and we are achieving them with each passing day,” the prime minister said, adding that his government has also started providing financial aid to marginal farmers.
Prior to his speech, Modi interacted with three beneficiaries of these government programs. Speaking to Ayyub Patel, a visually impaired beneficiary who came there with his eldest daughter Aliya, Modi got emotional after the girl started crying when she said she wanted to become a doctor as she couldn’t see the eye. state of his father. The Prime Minister has asked Patel to fulfill the wishes of his three daughters and to contact him in case he encounters any difficulties.
He also interacted with two widows – Meena Rathva and Aruna Vasava – who thanked the government for the financial support in these difficult times. Modi thanked almost 100 widows who had prepared giant rakhi for him.
According to an official, some 13,000 beneficiaries in Bharuch district had been identified and covered by the four government schemes, including the Ganga Swarupa financial assistance scheme for widows, the Indira Gandhi old age pension scheme, the national family assistance and a pension scheme for destitute elderly people.
