President Joko Widodo appreciates Indonesia for reaching upper middle class status
Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo is grateful to Indonesia for reaching the average to upper middle income level compared to the previous lower middle income, as announced by the World Bank on July 1, 2020.
Indonesia’s status changed from a lower middle-income country to a higher middle-income country yesterday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said in his speech on the ITB’s 100th anniversary, virtually since Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday.
He said that Indonesia’s gross national income per capita has currently grown to US $ 4,050 compared to US $ 3,840 previously.
Therefore, he invited all levels of society to be grateful for the new status.
We must be grateful for this increase in status and we will treat it as an opportunity for our country, Indonesia, to continue to progress, to take a leap forward to become a high-income country and succeed in breaking out of the income trap intermediary, he said.
Specifically, the President invited the extended family of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to also continue to contribute to nation-building.
