Prime Minister Modi will visit Morbi on November 1
Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Morbi in Gujarat on November 1, the office of the chief minister of the state announced on Monday.
According to the latest estimates, at least 132 people, including women and children, have been killed and more than 100 are receiving treatment for their injuries sustained after a cable suspension bridge collapsed in the town of Morbi on Sunday, plunging people in the Machchhu river.
Prime Minister Modi, who is in Kevadia, said rescue operations were underway and there would be no laxity in rescue and relief efforts.
“The Gujarat government has been carrying out relief and rescue operations since yesterday. The Center is also giving all its assistance to the state government,” Prime Minister Modi said.
“The state government has set up a commission to investigate this incident. I assure the people of the country that there will be no laxity in rescue and relief operations,” Prime Minister Modi said.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a rally on the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia.
“I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. In this hour of mourning, the government stands with the bereaved families in every way.

“I am in Ekta Nagar but I am thinking of the victims of Morbi. Rarely in my life have I felt such pain. On one side is a heart riddled with pain and on the other is the path of duty,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reached Morbi last night and had been in command of search and rescue operations since yesterday.
“The state government has set up a commission to investigate this incident. I assure the people of the country that there will be no laxity in rescue and relief operations,” Prime Minister Modi said.
The Prime Minister, who is on a three-day tour of Gujarat and Rajasthan, has also canceled his road show to be held today in Ahmedabad.
The suspension bridge over the Machchhu river in Morbi district has collapsed and at least 130 deaths have been reported so far. Visuals showed people falling into the river below.
Gujarat Police have filed a First Information Report under Sections 304 and 308 of the IPC (culpable homicide not constituting murder) in the tragedy of the bridge collapse.
The Gujarat government has formed a five-member committee to investigate the bridge collapse incident.
“An FIR has been filed against the Bridge Maintenance and Management Agencies, under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not constituting murder), 308 (attempted culpable homicide) and 114 (commentator present when offense is committed) of India Penal Code,” Morbi B Division Police Inspector Prakashbhai Dekavadiya said.
