Pervaiz Elahi assures Imran Khan to dissolve the assembly without delay

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi has assured former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to dissolve the Punjab Assembly without delay, ARY News reported on Thursday.

According to the details, Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi visited the former Prime Minister at his residence in Lahores Zaman Park. Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) leaders Moonis Elahi and Hussain Elahi were also present.

During the meeting, policy and administrative matters were discussed. The Rules of Procedure of the Punjab Assembly were also reviewed during the meeting. The participants also expressed their determination to fight against any unconstitutional tactics of the opposition.

Speaking on the occasion, Imran Khan noted that he has called a meeting of the Punjab Parliamentary Party tomorrow. A final consultation on the future of the Punjab Assembly will take place during the meeting, he added. Khan also lambasted the incumbent government for destroying the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, Pervaiz Elahi assured that there will be no delay in dissolving the Punjab Assembly once the PTI Chairman gives the call. The provincial assembly belonged to the former prime minister, he said, adding that they would support every decision Imrans made.

We fully support those we choose to ally with, the Punjab CM said, adding that those who create misunderstandings will fail as they have done in the past. He also praised the opposition for tabling a motion of no confidence in the provincial assembly, saying: This will fail as in the past.

Pervaiz Elahi claimed that the opposition did not have the numbers required to pass the motion of no confidence. Governors’ rule also cannot be imposed when the assembly is in session, he said, advising the opposition to review the rules of the assembly before speaking.

It is relevant to mention here that former Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that his party would quit all assemblies.

We will not be part of the political system of this country. We have decided to quit all assemblies, the former prime minister said addressing workers and party supporters in Rawalpindi Jalsa.

Imran Khan said his party decided not to travel to Islamabad to avoid destruction or chaos. I would announce the date of the resignations after consultation with the chief ministers and the parliamentary party, he announced.

Earlier on November 28, former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed that the Pakistani leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had agreed to dissolve the assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab.

Speaking to reporters at Zaman Park in Lahore, Fawad Chaudhry noted that the PTI leadership had called a meeting of party leaders to decide to quit all assemblies in order to push the incumbent government for new elections.

He said: The party leadership has agreed to dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab assemblies, while our members from Sindh and Balochistan assemblies will tender their resignations.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that the government would be forced to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) within 90 days as per the Constitution. The opposition in the provinces will also be invited to submit their names for the interim government, he added.
