What we’re watching: Russia goes after it, Khan ups the ante in the election

Russia strikes civilians and prepares for a long war in Ukraine

At least 40 people died Saturday in the attack of a Russian missile against a building in Dnipro, the fourth largest city in Ukraine, authorities announced on Monday. It is one of Russia’s deadliest attacks on Ukrainian civilians since the invasion, as Moscow doubles down on its strategy of targeting civilians to turn the tide of the war in its favor. Meanwhile, the Washington DC-based Institute for the Study of War claimed on Sunday that the Kremlin was bracing for a drawn-out conflict and renewed mobilization to roll back Ukraine’s military gains in recent months. What does this mean for Kyiv? That the United States and its NATO allies will have to stay the course on providing weapons to keep the Russians at bay. Clearly by message, the United Kingdom announced on Friday that it would send Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine for the first time. This could open a Pandora’s box within NATO: Poland wants to supply the Ukrainians with German-made Leopard tanks, but has not yet got the green light from Berlin, while the United States, Germany and France have so far only agreed to give Ukraine light armored vehicles. If they all go a step further and send heavy equipment, Vladimir Putin will know that Ukraine’s friends remain committed to its defense and worry less about Russian escalation.

Khan continues to push for snap electionsFormer Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was ousted from power last April, continues to try to force the government to hold snap elections. In his latest maneuver, the 70-year-old former superstar cricketer has succeeded in dissolving the provincial assembly of Punjab, which is home to around half of the country’s population. According to the rules, Punjab must elect a new legislature within 90 days. As Khan threatens to dissolve another provincial assembly soon, potentially triggering snap elections in two of Pakistan’s four provinces, he has created a conundrum for his rival, current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Should Pakistan, which is completely broke, engage in two massive and costly elections now and then again on their due date in November? Or should the government just give up and let Khan proceed with his national polls immediately? Considering that Khan’s popularity has only increased since his ousting, and even more so after the attempt on his life in October, he is likely to dominate the election. But no one can win a vote in Pakistan without the blessing of the all-powerful military, which Khan is targeting. Will the generals he so brazenly defied for so many months let him return to power?

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
