Turkish President condemns terrorist attack on Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran
BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a post on Twitter in connection with the armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran, Trend reports.
“I strongly condemn the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, which resulted in the death of a security officer. I express my condolences to our Azerbaijani brothers and wish healing to the injured. Trkiye stands by of his dear friend and brother Azerbaijan,” the tweet said.
An armed attack took place at the Azerbaijan Embassy in Iran on January 27, 2023 at around 8:30 a.m. (GMT+4). The shooter turned out to be a man in his fifties, who went to the administrative building, armed with a Kalashnikov automatic rifle.
Earlier reports from Tehran’s police chief said there were two children in the car with the shooter, security camera footage released later proved the man was alone. He entered the building after briefly greeting the Iranian security guard outside. No attempt was made to arrest the shooter, as he entered the embassy freely. The man managed to kill the head of the security service and wound two embassy guards. The shooter was eventually arrested. The incident is currently under investigation.
