Boris Johnson says Vladimir Putin threatened to kill him ‘with a missile’
Mr Johnson says he warned Putin that Western sanctions would be much tougher if he invaded Ukraine and said Russian aggression would only lead to the West stepping up its support for Ukraine, which which would lead to more NATO, not less NATO on the Russian borders.
He said, Boris, you say Ukraine will not join NATO anytime soon. [] What’s coming soon? and I said well, he won’t be joining NATO for the foreseeable future. You know that full well, Mr Johnson said of the crucial phone call with Putin.
He kind of threatened me at one point and said, Boris, I don’t want to hurt you, but with a missile it would only take a minute, or something.
I think from the very relaxed tone he took, the kind of detachment he seemed to have, he was just playing with my attempts to get him to negotiate, Mr Johnson said.
Russia claimed Ukrainians would ‘welcome them’
The program also details the last-minute attempt by Ben Wallace, the Secretary of Defense, to stop Russia’s war on Ukraine.
