Erdogan accuses his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu of LGBT

Ankara: Ahead of this month’s general election, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called his political rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu an LGBT person. Erdogan’s government sees LGBT ideology as an American and European religion, alien to Turkish morality, Russia Today reported.

We know Mr. Kemal is an LGBT person, Erdogan said at a rally in the city of Giresun on Thursday. The CHP is LGBT, the IYI party is LGBT, the HDP is LGBT, he added, listing the political factions of the six-party bloc of the National Alliance of Kilicdaroglus, according to a report published in Russia Today.

As the People’s Alliance, we are against this, he said, referring to his own political bloc, adding that the family is sacred to us. A strong family means a strong nation. No matter what they do, God is enough for us.

Erdogan made the exact same statement at a rally in the city of Rize on Wednesday, accusing Kilicdaroglu and his supporters of being pro-LGBT.

Kilicdaroglu has promised to reinstate the Istanbul Convention if elected, even though he is not a strong supporter of gay rights, according to Russia Today.

The Istanbul Convention, signed by 45 countries plus the European Union in 2011, aimed to strengthen legal sanctions for violence against women, but Turkey withdrew from it in 2021, saying it had been hijacked by a group of people trying to normalize homosexuality. This was likely a reference to the treatise list of transgender women, who are biologically male, as female.

They are trying to degenerate our whole society as LGBT, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said of Kilicdaroglu and his allies in February, Russia Today reported.

Soylu also said: If Kilicdaroglu wants to undress himself and his colleagues, let him, adding: Family is important to us, woman is important to us, man is important to us.

Last month, Soylu claimed in a radio interview that the term LGBTQ includes the marriage of animals and humans. He went on to refer to LGBT activism as being completely under the control of America and Europe and LGBT ideology as a religion.

Kilicdaroglu has mostly refrained from launching personal attacks on Erdogan and Soylu, instead favoring pro-Western rhetoric in his speeches. If elected, the 74-year-old former civil servant pledged to quickly reopen EU accession negotiations and implement the reforms demanded by Brussels.

Recent opinion polls show Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu in a statistical stalemate, Russia Today reported.
