Jokowi discusses nickel at the G7: this is not a period of colonialism!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) proposed the formation of an organization of countries exporting nickel and palm products. It’s like the existing OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries).
This was revealed on Jokowi’s Instagram account, during his visit to the G7 Partners Working Session held at the Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima, Japan.
“I hope the G7 countries can become partners in the downstream of this industry and it is time to form a kind of OPEC for other products like nickel and palm oil,” said he said, quoted on Saturday (5/20/2023).
Jokowi told the G7 session that he discussed various global issues. It also conveys messages from the countries of the “Global South”.
It wants to encourage equality, collaboration and inclusiveness in global cooperation.
“The pandemic has taught the world the importance of involving more countries in the global supply chain. For this reason, I call for an end to monopoly policies. Discriminatory policies against products from countries in development must also be stopped,” he said.
Furthermore, Jokowi also pointed out that now is not the time for the countries of the South to be granted space only as exporters of raw materials.
“The world is no longer in the era of colonialism. Is it fair that resource-rich countries like Indonesia are prevented from enjoying the added value of their natural resources? he said.
Jokowi also explained that there are more than 270 million Indonesians who are the anchors of peace, democracy and economy in the Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific region. who should thrive.
“Therefore, Indonesia is not closing down, but working hard to increase cooperation in other forms that are more equal and with win-win results for all,” he concluded.
