Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie welcomed a friend who helped plan their Checkers wedding during the Covid restrictions, it has been claimed.
The couple invited corporate events manager Dixie Maloney to spend the night at the House of Grace and Favor on May 7, 2021, The Guardian reported.
At the time, indoor gatherings between different households were still prohibited except when reasonably necessary, such as for work or childcare.
A spokesman for the former prime minister insisted the visit was entirely legal and covered by the relevant provisions of the Covid regulations.
A source close to him added that Ms Maloney helped with childcare while Ms Johnson was pregnant with her second child, Romy.
Ms Maloneys’ spokesman said she took the restrictions very seriously and would not have done anything at the relevant time unless she honestly believed it was legal to do so.
They added that she had never been formally engaged to work for Boris or Carrie Johnson, and had never held a public role, whether in government or otherwise.
