The Ministry of Communications and Information on Monday submitted draft Presidential Regulations on Media Sustainability to the Secretary of State for consideration and signature by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The ministry said the planned regulation would require digital platforms, including Google and Meta, to prioritize media information verified by the Press Council and remove information that does not comply with press law or journalistic ethics from their search engines and other features.
“Yes, [both of those obligations] are included. We tabled the bill this afternoon,” said Usman Kansong, director general of public information and communication at the ministry. Jakarta Post Monday.
