Imran Khan urges IMF to audit election results before loan approval, warns of increased burden on Pakistan

Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, took a bold stance by urging the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conduct an audit of the February 8 election results before approving any new loan for Pakistan. Islamabad. Khan's decision, aimed at ensuring transparency in the electoral process, comes amid ongoing negotiations for a new loan program with the IMF.

Speaking to the media during a hearing at Adiala Prison, where he was witnessing a 190 million benchmark, Khan stressed the importance of accountability, questioning the feasibility of acquiring loans in a context of electoral uncertainty. He warned that further borrowing would worsen poverty and weigh on the country's economy.

Khan's call for an audit follows an announcement by PTI senator Ali Zafar, indicating the party's decision to write to the IMF on the matter. However, the IMF has expressed its willingness to work with the new Pakistani government, ignoring Khan's request, according to reports.

In response, former finance minister Ishaq Dar criticized Khan's letter, denying its significance and condemning any action against the national interest. Dar, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), called Khan's decision shameful and motivated by personal gain.

Debate over the electoral process is intensifying as Pakistan nears the end of its short-term IMF program, which helped avoid a sovereign debt default. As negotiations are underway for a new loan, the issue of electoral integrity has become a focal point, particularly with the PTI and other parties rejecting election results and announcing nationwide protests.

PTI's demands for transparency in the electoral process, including publication of results based on Form 45, highlight the party's concerns over allegations of fraud. As political tensions escalate, Pakistan grapples with the challenge of reconciling economic stability and democratic principles.
