President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Panua Pohuwato Airport in Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province on Monday, April 22, 2024. In his speech, President Jokowi highlighted the importance of infrastructure in increasing the country's competitiveness on the World Scene.

The President revealed that Indonesia, as a large country with 514 districts and cities, 38 provinces and 17,000 islands, needs adequate infrastructure to support economic connectivity and competition.

If we don't have it, our country won't be able to compete, we won't be able to compete with other countries, our products won't be able to compete with other countries. “So airports are very important for us to compete with other countries,” he said.

In the future, it will not be the big countries that beat the small ones, but the fast countries that beat the slow countries. Therefore, we must be fast, he continued, highlighting the important role of airports in accelerating the connectivity of people and goods.

The IDR 437 billion Panua Pohuwato Airport is designed to open economic access to Pohuwato Regency with a 1,200 x 30 meter long runway. The President expressed his wish that the runway be extended so that ATR type aircraft can land, which would further strengthen the airport's function in supporting local economic activity.

Earlier, I took the ATR because the presidential plane could not land. “That is why I have ordered the terminal that the length of the runway be increased so that the full ATR can enter Pohuwato,” he stressed.

With the opening of Panua Pohuwato Airport, the President hopes that new economic points will emerge that will improve the welfare of the people of Pohuwato Regency. This inauguration is also a symbol of the government's commitment to advancing Indonesia's regions through infrastructure development.
