'I think big, but I always stay grounded': PM Narendra Modi to NDTV

The Lok Sabha elections began on April 19 and the fifth phase of polling will be held tomorrow.

New Delhi:

The BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set a target of winning 370 seats for itself and 400 for the NDA in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, four phases of which have been completed.

The prime minister, now eyeing a historic third term, said he was thinking big, but staying grounded.

“Even when I am confident, I do not express it and I have never won with overconfidence. I think big, but I always stay with my feet on the ground,” the Prime Minister said in an exclusive interview with the NDTV Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Pugalia. .

The Prime Minister, who has instructed his ministers to develop an action plan for the first 100 days of his new government, told NDTV the path to success – with emphasis on scope, scale, speed and skills.

“The scope must be very large, it must not be divided into several parts. The second thing is the scale, which must also be large. The speed must be in sync with these two. So the scope, the scale and speed, and then you have to be competent If we can bring these four things together, I think we can achieve a lot,” PM Modi said.

Talking about his macro-level thinking, the Prime Minister said the fact that the Congress and the INDIA alliance have not declared a candidate for the post of Prime Minister deprives voters of the opportunity to evaluate him.

He also said that every Cabinet note relating to a bill is now accompanied by a report on global standards so that legislation can be aligned with global best practices.

“These days, a tradition has started in my cabinet. Every time a bill to be presented to Parliament is presented to the cabinet, a note on global standards accompanies it. This note mentions which country is the most performing well in this particular area, what are the rules and how we can achieve it So we need to match every cabinet rating to global standards,” he said.

The Lok Sabha elections began on April 19 and the fifth phase of polling will be held tomorrow. The counting will take place on June 4.

Tune in at 8pm today to watch the interview, which will be broadcast on the NDTV network.
