Collaboration key to solving water problem: President Jokowi
Bali (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said collaboration is the key to global success in overcoming global water challenges.
Jokowi made the statement while opening the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) Summit at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Bali, on Monday.
“By meeting in Bali today, of course, Indonesia hopes that the world can continually join hands to strengthen the commitment to collaboration to overcome global water challenges,” he said. he points out.
Jokowi called attention to the dwindling availability of clean water as a current global challenge. Of the 72 percent of the earth's surface covered by water, only one percent is accessible and used for drinking water and sanitation.
The president said that by 2050, some 500 million small farmers, who contribute 80 percent of the world's food, would be most vulnerable to drought.
“No water, no life, no growth. Therefore, water must be well managed because every drop of water is very precious,” he remarked.
Jokowi said that in Indonesia, collaboration has been the key to success in restoring the Citarum River as well as developing green energy, floating solar panels in the Cirata Reservoir and becoming the largest in Southeast Asia and the third largest in the world.
