Ankara to maintain pressure on Israel through trade, diplomacy until Gaza massacre ends: Turkish president
ANKARA
Turkey will continue to pressure Israel until it ends its war in the Gaza Strip, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
“We will continue to put pressure on Israel in the commercial and diplomatic fields until the Netanyahu administration stops its massacres in Gaza,” Erdogan said at the General Assembly of the Council on Foreign Economic Relations (DEIK) in Istanbul .
He said Turkey has halted all trade activities with Israel, which has killed nearly 36,000 Palestinians in the blockaded enclave since last October, in addition to creating famine conditions and reducing the territory to rubble.
Israel is accused of “genocide” by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in its latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately suspend its operations in Rafah, a town in southern Gaza where more than a million Palestinians displaced people had found refuge.
The president also spoke about the country's economic goals and achievements, saying exports exceeded $255 billion, reaching a record $257.6 billion in April.
“With a growth rate of 4.5%, Turkey ranks first in Europe, second among the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and fourth among the G20,” he said. he declared.
Highlighting the goals of Ankara's economic program, the Turkish president said Turkey's economic priority is to reduce inflation to single digits for permanent relief, with an emphasis on long-term stability to improve the well-being.
“The annual current account deficit, which reached $57 billion last year in May, fell to $31.2 billion in March,” Erdogan said.
“Excluding gold and energy, the current account recorded a surplus of $36.1 billion per year. I believe that the improvement in the current account deficit will continue,” he added.
“We will enter a disinflationary period starting in the second half of the year. Market expectations strongly support our forecasts,” the president said, adding: “We will not allow additional inflationary pressures through our fiscal policy.”

Erdogan said the government was implementing a new industrial policy and would redirect funds to priority areas through its public savings and efficiency program.
Turkey supports technology-driven investments in critical sectors, he said, adding that the country attaches great importance to achieving green and digital transformation.
“The name of Turkey is increasingly appearing at the forefront in the search for production centers as an alternative to Asia,” the president said.
