FACT CHECK

BOOM translated Prime Minister Modi's part of the speech and found that he did not use any profanity or swear words in his speech. Moreover, the video is old and is falsely linked to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

We noticed the logo of media outlet The Quint on the viral video and a headline, 'PM Modi addresses rally in Patan, Gujarat'. Taking this as inspiration, we searched for the full original video and discovered that it was broadcast live on The Quint's YouTube channel on April 21, 2019, during the previous general election.

The portion of the viral video starts at 43:19, where Prime Minister Modi first claims that if his party is voted to power, a separate water ministry would be created.

His next statement is used in the viral video to claim that he used a swear word. The original line in Gujarati is “.”, which roughly translates in Hindi to “.,”

We also translated this sentence into English and found that it says: “People say that in the future there will be a struggle for water. And if everyone says there is a fight for water, why don't we take precautions now. ?”

The last part of this statement is a Gujarati proverb: “bond water pairs” which refers to preparing for a situation in advance, which Prime Minister Modi uses to refer to his proposed water ministry. Prime Minister Modi cannot be heard using any swear words in the viral clip or elsewhere in the speech.
