Of the 71 ministers sworn in in the Modi 3.0 government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained at least 31 ministers from the last cabinet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in on Sunday for a rare third consecutive term. The inauguration ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and his ministers was administered by President Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. A mix of old and new faces, the Union Cabinet for the 18th Lok Sabha comprises 30 ministers, five independent ministers of state and 36 ministers of state.

Of the 71 ministers sworn in in the Modi 3.0 government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained at least 31 ministers from the last cabinet, including big names like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar and Nitin Gadkari. The Modi 3.0 cabinet has expanded to 72 members, including 30 ministers and 5 ministers of state (independent charge). The majority of seats are allocated to the BJP, with the rest going to allied parties.

Up to 5 ministerial positions have been allocated to allies, while 2 ministers of state have been appointed in charge independently and 4 are serving as ministers of state. The distribution of ministerial posts favors larger coalition partners including the JDU, TDP, LJP, JDS and HAM, with key figures securing ministerial posts. The latest Cabinet list shows the structure of Modi 2.0, which also included 72 ministers. The ministerial number has seen a gradual increase, from 58 in 2019 to 78 in 2021.
