Imran Khan ready to talk with govt, ready to forgive: PTI

ISLAMABAD: Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has given the green signal for negotiations with the government and is “ready to forgive” what happened to him, his party president Gohar Khan said on Tuesday.

“We told the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that dialogue is necessary as the distance is widening. He agreed with us (on this),” Gohar told media outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.

According to Gohar, Khan, 71, wants the avenues of dialogue to be opened. He told reporters that Khan was “ready to forgive what happened to him for the sake of reconciliation.”

“The PTI founder has repeatedly said, 'I am ready to forgive what happened to me,'” Gohar was quoted as saying by Geo TV.

The cricketer-turned-politician has been incarcerated at the high security Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi since his arrest 10 months ago for his involvement in several cases, some of which resulted in conviction.

Asked if the negotiations would take place at the request of the Supreme Court's opinion, Gohar said: “The option proposed by the apex court is also under consideration.” »

However, he stressed that it is the PTI's “own decision” to negotiate.

“The PTI founder did not write any letter to the SC to negotiate. The PTI will also respond to its negotiation option.

Gohar said the party would begin its negotiations after discussing with Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

He said there is an alliance with Achakzai and other parties and his party will take them into confidence.

“Negotiations can also take place at the alliance level. The PTI can also initiate itself,” the party leader said, reiterating that there is no other option than negotiation.

“We have never refused to negotiate. The ice breaks. We want things to improve,” Gohar said, insisting that his party’s offer to negotiate should not be interpreted as a deal.

His comment comes days after Khan decided to step back from his rigid stance, ordering his party leaders to establish contacts both inside and outside Parliament to ease ongoing political tensions, sources told Geo News.

The sources said the party leadership had been asked to hold talks with various political parties outside Parliament, while its lawmakers were also asked to strengthen relations with the ruling government coalition parties.

Gohar told reporters that the party founder had met lawyers today and informed them of his ban on speaking to his sons.

Khan's decision came after his interaction with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa while appearing for a hearing in the Supreme Court.

During the hearing on the amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Act, CJP Isa suggested that Khan should visit Parliament to help resolve Pakistan's problems “as the country needs to move forward”.

The former prime minister empowered his party's three-member committee to establish contacts with the establishment, the sources said.

Last week, Khan had said that dialogue would take place only with those who hold real power in the country.

When a journalist pointed out to him that the Supreme Court had also asked him to talk to other political parties, Khan said he had not even negotiated with (Prime Minister) Shaukat Aziz during the Musharraf era . I only spoke to Musharraf's representative, he said.

Khan said that at the request of former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, his party had negotiated with other political parties on the election issue. He said the elections were to be held in 90 days and alleged that Bandial was under pressure and could not force the polls on time.
