Malaysians trust Putin and Xi on world stage more than Macron or Biden, Pew survey finds
- The Pew Research Center survey finds more Malaysians trust Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on world affairs.
- US President Joe Biden and his disgraced predecessor Donald Trump are both ranked lower than French President Emmanuel Macron.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 A greater proportion of Malaysians surveyed by the Pew Research Center expressed confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping when it comes to world affairs.
The Washington-based investigator Spring 2024 Global Attitudes Survey showed that Malaysians' views did not reflect others among the 34 countries surveyed, where a median of 43 percent said they had confidence in Biden to do the right thing.

Malaysians' views of the two world leaders have remained largely unchanged since the last survey in 2022, where 59 of respondents had a positive view of Putin, compared to 62% for Xi.

Biden, Trump and Macron are no match for Putin and Xi
In comparison, Macron received the approval of 44 percent of Malaysians polled in this survey.
Respondents in Malaysia viewed Biden and his controversial predecessor Donald Trump with equal disdain. Only 30% of respondents were confident that Biden would do the right thing in world affairs, compared to 33% for Trump.
About one in ten adults in Australia, Japan, Poland and Sweden trust Xi's handling of world affairs. But opinions of Xi are not negative everywhere: Half or more in Bangladesh, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore, Thailand and Tunisia trust him, according to the survey.
The survey by a nonpartisan think tank based in the United States was conducted from January 5 to May 21 of this year among a nationally representative group of 40,566 people in 34 countries, not including the United States. United.

This Pew Research Center analysis focused on public opinion of Biden and other world leaders and explored respondents' views on the US president's handling of international issues.
China is Malaysia's largest trading partner, with the United States being the third after Singapore.
Russia is not even in the top 25, but Putrajaya previously said relations between the two remained cordial despite the former being involved in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014.
