Detroit will go MAGA this week with Trump visits and a boat parade

DETROIT, MI Donald Trump will add a visit to a Detroit church to his weekend schedule in Michigan, officials said.

The former president and 2024 Republican candidate for office will speak with voters in a roundtable discussion Saturday, June 15, at 4 p.m., at 180 Church, 13660 Stansbury Ave.

Doors open at 1 p.m., Trump campaign officials said.

Trump's visit there will coincide with his previously announced planned attendance at the Peoples Convention at Huntington Place, a downtown Detroit conference center, Friday through Sunday, June 14-16.

This event will include a series of high-profile conservative political figures linked to Trump's Republican policies, also known as the Make America Great Again, or MAGA, movement.

Organizers did not provide a timetable for when Trump plans to appear at the conference.

Detroit and Michigan, in general, have recently become destinations in high demand for presidential candidates.

The People's Convention is scheduled 25 days after Huntington Place hosted an event featuring Trump's election competitor, President Joe Biden. The Democrat was the keynote speaker May 20 at the Detroit branch of the 69th annual NAACP Freedom Fight Fund dinner.

Trump's visit this weekend will also coincide with his birthday celebration, although it is unclear whether he will be in Detroit on Friday, when he turns 78.

However, his Saturday visit aligns with the Michigan MAGA boat parade hosted by the Michigan Conservative Coalition. Organizers plan to assemble a fleet of ships to ferry Trump supporters along the Detroit coast, in part to belatedly commemorate his birthday.

The same group held a boat parade to celebrate his birthday in 2020, when Trump was campaigning for a second term in the White House.

Trump last visited Michigan during a May 1 campaign stop at an airport hangar in Tittabawassee Township, a community in Saginaw County.

Biden visited the same community in March.
