Governor Participates in National Coordination Meeting on Inflation Control and President Recalls Climate Change Challenges – Department of Communication, Informatics, Statistics and Coding
JAKARTA – Governor of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) DR. (HC.) H. Zainal A. Paliwang, M. Hum. attended the national coordination meeting on inflation control which was directly chaired by President Joko Widodo at the Indonesian Presidential Palace on Friday (14/6).
The President expressed his gratitude to the entire inflation control team, both central and regional, who worked hard to control inflation so that by May 2024, Indonesian inflation would be 2, 84 percent.
“He’s one of the best in the world. If we remember 9 or 10 years ago, our inflation rate was 9.6%. “And our efforts are 2.84 percent,” explained President Jokowi.
Through the Minister of Interior (Mendagri), inflation control meetings continue to be held every week so that inflation in all regions of Indonesia is well monitored and controlled.
“Every time I go to a region, I now ask what is the level of regional inflation, what is the level of economic growth, so that we worry about very important things,” the President continued.
However, despite this, the President also recalled the challenges ahead, namely that the world is heading towards a climate hell that could disrupt food stability and water availability due to rising temperatures in several regions of the world.
“When it comes to food, be careful. The FAO said that if nothing is done (climate change), the world will experience a serious famine by 2050. “We must now anticipate this because it is estimated that 50 million farmers will lack water”, stressed Jokowi.
The President explained that if the availability of water is not anticipated, the production of farmers will decrease, leading to a reduction in the availability of goods, so that when demand increases and there is no no goods, massive inflation will occur.
“If (inflation) happens, it’s the people who will be the victims. “Therefore, in the last 3 months, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Public Works are collaborating with the TNI to quickly build pumps, perhaps we will install 20,000 pumps in areas whose main production is rice to irrigate the rice fields,” Jokowi continued.
Before closing the national coordination meeting, Jokowi advised all levels to use technology in the agricultural sector, invest in regional product management, and manage product distribution well.
