Trump prepares for his first presidential debate with a political session in Washington

After his meetings with congressional lawmakers Thursday, former President Donald Trump spent time at the Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, participating in what two aides call a policy discussion with a small group of aides and Senators Marco Rubio from Florida and Eric Schmitt from Missouri. .

Topics covered included democracy and how to answer the inevitable questions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, including Trump's response to the riot incited by his supporters that day.

While Trump's team insists the meeting was not preparation for a debate, an adviser to the former president acknowledged that these types of sessions will ultimately be useful when Trump faces President Joe Biden for their first debate, which will be hosted by CNN in Atlanta on June 27.

The New York Times was the first to report on the political debate.

Advisers are reluctant to use the words debate preparation when it comes to Trump, instead citing various interviews and events as examples of how the former president is preparing to take on Biden, including answering questions from friendly members of the public at a recent event.

President Trump participates in numerous tough interviews each week and delivers lengthy stand-up rally speeches, demonstrating the endurance of the elite, Trump senior adviser Jason Miller, who is leading Trump's efforts before debate.

The upcoming Atlanta debate between Biden and Trump, which takes place in less than two weeks, will mark a historically early showdown that will set the tone for the final months of the 2024 campaign.

The two also accepted an invitation from ABC to debate for a second time on September 10.

According to a CNN statement, the June 27 debate will be held in the network's Atlanta studios without an audience, which is an anomaly in debates between presidential candidates.
