CJP Isa says Imran Khan's audio conversation not leaked from Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: After questioning the Supreme Court staff, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa said the audio conversation which would feature Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and judges would not had not been disclosed by the supreme court, The News reported on Saturday.

The apex judge said he questioned IT staff who told him that there were voices in the audio that did not belong to the apex court.

The conversation between the PTI founder and judges during the second hearing of a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendment case was leaked and widely shared on social media platforms.

Nonetheless, Justice Athar Minallah asked what was the problem even if the audio was leaked while the dialogues took place in a public hearing.

It is worth noting that during the first hearing of the NAB amendment case, a photo of Imran from Courtroom No. 1 was leaked, as the former Prime Minister appeared in court via a video link from Adiala prison. The image quickly went viral on social media.

PAS taking oath

The newly elected cabinet members of the Supreme Court Press Association (PAS) were sworn in before Justice Isa at the Supreme Court bench on Friday. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, along with Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Athar Minallah and Naeem Akhtar Afghan, were present on the occasion.

The new PAS cabinet consists of the following members: President Mian Aqeel Afzal, Vice President Ghulam Nabi Yousafzai, Finance Secretary Raja Basharat, Ikramullah Joya, Asia Kausar, Mian Abid Nisar and General Secretary Imran Waseem.

Afterwards, the Chief Justice and other judges had an informal discussion with PAS members.

The chief justice said that in the past he also wrote, adding that his mother Saeeda Qazi Isa also wrote articles.

He showed copies of an English daily that had published his articles. At the time, it was written after a lot of research, CJP said, but he added that it's easy these days, just pick up the phone and say what you have to say.

The Chief Justice said that court reporting is a very difficult job, adding that sometimes court reporters describe a context in their stories that they (the judges) have forgotten.

Justice Isa recalled that he first compiled the media laws and published them in book form.

The CJP said that the Lahore High Court wrote 627 paragraphs in the decision in the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case while the Supreme Court wrote 963 paragraphs, adding that in criminal cases the decision may not be as long.

He said that since the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case has been decided, notice can now be given on the matter.

During the conversation, the chief justice shared a few sentences from a book called First You Write a Sentence.
