Republicans applaud the Supreme Court for ending Donald Trump's policies

Republicans celebrated Friday when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a wholesale stockpile policy, even though it was put in place under former President Donald Trump.

The Supreme Court struck down the ban on bulk stocks in a 6-3 decision. All of the conservative justices joined the majority opinion, while the court's three liberals disagreed. Safety stocks can be added to weapons to allow continuous fire, with critics saying they essentially turn a semi-automatic weapon into a machine gun.

The Trump administration banned the sale or possession of big-stock stocks in 2018, after a gunman used the weapon in a mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people and left hundreds more injured. others injured. The policy received support from Democrats because gun safety advocates saw it as a common-sense measure that could prevent similar future mass shootings.

The ban is the result of a Department of Justice (DOJ) rule.

Despite the policy put in place by the Trump administration, Republicans on Friday celebrated the court's overturning of the ban in posts on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Major Victory for Rights #2A at the Supreme Court!!” Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a prominent supporter of the former president, posted a message.

Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado said, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, SHALL NOT BE VIOLATED. And plastic accessories are not weapons! »

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah posted: “Good. The Supreme Court is reminding unelected bureaucrats that they can't infringe on our Second Amendment rights by rewriting laws they don't like.”

“In our constitutional republic, it is Congress that makes the laws, not the administrative branch,” said Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky. “The Supreme Court just recognized this in a 6-3 decision striking down Trump's bump stock ban.”

Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign for comment via email.

Trump has already praised the ban on wholesale stocks and has not publicly commented on Friday's Supreme Court ruling.

“The Obama Administration legalized Bump Stocks. BAD IDEA. As I promised, the Department of Justice will issue a rule banning BUMP STOCKS today with a mandatory comment period. We WILL BAN all devices that transform from legal weapons to illegal machine guns,” Trump wrote in a post on X, then on Twitter, on March 23, 2018.

The SCOTUS decision drew criticism from Democrats and gun safety advocates.

“This is a horrible decision that will undoubtedly lead to more gun deaths. The bump stock ban has enjoyed bipartisan support in the wake of the nation's deadliest mass shooting. “This decision is another example of SCOTUS legislating from the bench, against the will of the people,” posted Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat.

“Make no mistake: Safety stocks are dangerous devices that can cause incredible harm. The shooter in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history in Las Vegas used a safety stock. This decision endangers the safety of every community in this country,” New York said. Attorney General Letitia James.
