But the conversation shifted to Williams' ties to former President Donald Trump.

The New York Times reported in May that a former aide testified during his trial that the two men “spoke frequently.”

“I mean, is that what this interview is about?” Williams responded with a laugh when asked by co-host David Marchese if the two had spoken. “Really?”

She then seemingly flipped the script, pointing out that she had spoken to multiple presidents. Including the late Ronald Reagan.

The conversation returned to Williams, who spoke at length about her love of tennis, which continues despite her assurances that there is no return on the horizon, and how she is handling retirement and motherhood .

“It’s a life I’ve never known,” she said. “You have to understand: My whole life, as long as I can remember, has been focused on one thing. I don't know anything else. And so this is all new to me. It's like a whole new career. And of course, I prefer playing tennis, but that's because I've been doing it all my life.”

Williams went on to say that she was happy to “miss” tennis.

“I didn't realize I would have such an incredible relationship with tennis once it was all said and done. It's a beautiful miss. It's like nostalgia. I love it.”
