Former BBC chairman Richard Sharp 'could be knighted'
Sharp had previously resigned from his position at the broadcaster following the publication of a report revealing he had breached the companies' code on public appointments.
This came after it emerged that Sharp had played a role in facilitating an $800,000 loan guarantee for then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson (below).
According to the TimesWhitehall sources initially said Sharp was to be nominated for a peerage, although there are now suggestions it could be a knighthood.
Peerages are considered by the independent appointments committee of the House of Lords, which can advise the prime minister not to elevate individuals to the upper house.
Other honors, including knighthoods, are part of the Prime Minister's gift, although they are subject to the Cabinet Office for probity and propriety checks.

Former Prime Minister Theresa May is also proposed for the title of Companion of Honour, the newspaper reports.
This is awarded in recognition of those who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine or government.
Sharp and May are expected to be on the dissolution honors list, which usually rewards MPs who stand down at election.
If Sunak loses the election, he will have the opportunity to hand his allies a resignation honors list, which rewards those who helped the prime minister during their time in office.
Sharp resigned from the BBC after failing to declare his involvement in helping Johnson secure security over an 800,000 loan, weeks before he was recommended for the role of BBC chairman.
The Sunday Times reported that Sharp introduced Simon Case, head of the civil service, to Sam Blyth, a Canadian businessman and Johnson's distant cousin.
The former Prime Minister was thought to be in need of funds and Blyth was said to have mooted the idea of acting as guarantor for the Prime Minister.

Sharp was also Sunak's boss at investment bank Goldman Sachs, having spent eight years at JP Morgan previously.
He also served as an informal adviser to Sunak during the pandemic, when the current prime minister was chancellor.
