The Washington Times, an American conservative media outlet, reported on the 9th that President Xi Jinping is hiding $700 million in assets.
Citing a report from the US Congressional Research Service (CRS), media outlets claimed that top Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping, were involved in corruption and hid hundreds of millions of dollars in wealth using relatives to conceal their activities.
In 2012, before he came to power, Xi had at least $307 million in business investments, indirectly owning 18% of shares in rare earth mining companies worth more than $311 million and $20.2 million from tech companies, media reported in a report prepared for lawmakers by CRS.
Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Avril Haines summarized the contents ahead of the official report to Congress, which the DNI plans to formally report to Congress at the end of the year.
The Washington Times said the investigation into millions of Chinese Communist Party members would undermine Xi's 12-and-a-half-year corrupt activities, known as “tiger hunting.”
Meanwhile, President Xi ousted 266 members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, including Defense Minister Li Sang-fu and Foreign Minister Chin Kang, who were former members of the Central Military Commission, through anti-corruption investigations.
