Imran's acquittal in Tyrian White case challenged in SC

A private citizen has approached the Supreme Court against the dismissal of his petition seeking disqualification of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The petitioner, Mohammad Sajid, alleged that Mr Khan failed to disclose the existence of his daughter, Tyrian Khan White, in his nomination papers for the 2018 general elections.

The petitioner, through his lawyer Saad Mumtaz Hashmi, argued that the bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) erred in considering the concurring opinion of two out of three judges as the judgment of the court, even if the judgment had been reserved and not officially announced.

The petitioner claimed that when Mr. Khan filed his nomination paper to contest the elections from Mianwali Constituency (NA-95) on June 11, 2018, he only provided details of his wife, Bushra Bibi, and his two sons living abroad, Qasim Khan. and Sulaiman Khan.

The petitioner claimed that by failing to mention the existence of Tyrian Khan White, born on June 15, 1992 and whose paternity was confirmed by court records in California, United States, Mr. Khan had provided a false affidavit , which made him liable to disqualification under the principle established in the 2018 Habib Akram case.

The case had been dismissed by the IHC on May 21, 2014 after Chief Justice Aamer Farooq recused himself.
