58 cows distributed to mosques in two Papuan provinces for Qurbani
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri said 58 sacrificial cows were distributed to mosques in Papua and Central Papua provinces to be slaughtered during the celebration of the This year's Eid al-Adha.
Twenty-one of the 58 cattle were sent to mosques in Jayapura town while 37 others were distributed to mosques in Keerom, Jayapura, Kepulauan Yapen, Waropen, Nabire, Biak, Sarmi and Supiori districts.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Fakhiri said the Qurbani animals were distributed to mosques through the collaboration of the Papua Police with the local Interfaith Communication Forum (FKUB).
Qurbani is the religious sacrifice of cattle, goats or sheep performed after the Eid al-Adha prayers to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice of his beloved son for the sake of Allah.
Meanwhile, in Jakarta on Sunday, the Istiqlal Grand Mosque received at least 44 Qurbani animals from Muslim communities, mosque spokesperson Ismail Cawidu said.
The mosque also received a Simmental cow from President Joko Widodo and a Limousin cow from Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
He added that the weight of the Simmental cow is recorded at around 1,192 kilograms while that of the Limousin cattle reaches around 1,164 kilograms.
As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is celebrating Eid al-Adha in Central Java this year.
